By the way, Motorola will soon update the PowerPC G4 core. Among the changes will be:

- Extended pipeline from five to seven stages
- Increased frequency from 500 MHz to 700+ MHz.
- On-die L2 cache, support for external L3 cache

It will be manufactured in a 0.18u process (Motorola calls it 0.13u, but MPR says it's actually 0.18u) and should be released ... er ... well, it was slated for release in the middle of this year. Guess that's another schedule slip that we don't hear about.

Well... when you combine Motorola's non existent manufacturing capability with IBM's absolutely inept management decisions, it is no f**king wonder you have Apple peddling two divergent G3/G4 platforms(with/without AltiVec), not yet in .18um technology (12 months late), stuck at 500MHz (design limited), and NO near term solution in sight. Madness. Sheer madness.
