Cory:

"Unrealistic to believe you have slow down at AAPL and INTC because AMD is cleaning their clock with 3+ mill "Athy's"...niceguy will tell you different."

Is it unrealistic to think that AMD's ASP is rising while both AAPL's and INTC's ASP is falling? If not unrealistic, then is it unrealistic to think that with each new speed grade intro by AMD that they can drop their prices by 1 speed grade thereby putting even more pressure on AAPL and INTC ASP's which may have directly contributed to their Q3 shortfalls in earnings? Is it unrealistic to think that AMD is gaining new Athy clientelle at a rapid rate given the existing "value for price" gap that now exists at every speed grade in the consumer marketplace? Is it unrealistic, given increasing Q3 shipments for INTC, that AMD, too, might experience increasing Q3 shipments, given this "value for price" gap at all levels...Is it unrealistic to think that if, like INTC, AMD Q3 shipments have increased, but unlike INTC ASP's have also increased, that AMD is positioned, once again, for a 4th successive quarter of record breaking earnings...Is it unrealistic to think that if the foregoing scenario pans out, that analysts won't jump all over AMD given its rising fortunes in the face of competitor calamity?

Cory, I have to believe a lot of AAPL problems stems from Motorola not keeping up in speed grades. Both AMD and Intc easily surpass the G4 in most benchmarks as I believe the fastest is 450 mhz, and it just wasn't worth the money. In addition I believe AAPL upser a lot of people by not delivering the 500 mhz as promised.

Cory, on channel stuffing, there was a Register article a week or two ago saying AMD was calling its customers to order more CPU's. But that's standard stuff at every company. Anyhow, I don't think AMD would be calling distributors but more likely OEM's.

AMD's finished goods inventory, the category into which distributor's unsold inventory falls, was actually down between April 1 and July 1 so AMD might have gotten a small boost this q in shipments but not sales to refill the distributor pipe.
