When I first heard about Apple's trouble shipping the newest Macs after Macworld, I almost posted about the strong possibility of an earnings shortfall this quarter. The channel was dry in early July and Apple was still having manufacturing problems into late August.

Other analysts say it is a demand problem, so perhaps that is true as well. The Apple faithful may finally have had enough with the delays in OS X and the G4 being stuck at 500Mhz for an entire year, multiple processors notwithstanding.

I still think AAPL will come back up before the open tomorrow, it's simply not reasonable to get a 45% haircut on this news, IMHO. On the other hand, it could also be signs of trouble for the tech sector as a whole.
