Chips are commodity items -- and excess supply is common. Fiber optic components are -- ahem -- not commoditized (at all). Nor is there any excess supply. Quite the opposite, actually. Nor is their any serious hint of any excess supply issues on the horizon. If there were, there would be no need for this "debate." Trust me. Now, all this said, (and this is for Bag ;)) JDSU (and its kin) was weaker than most tech stocks yesterday. No argument there. "Window dressing" clearly not effecting f/o here. In addition, Sagawa's report hurt. That said, these stocks have already been hurt. Bad. And Nortel's "bounce" in the face of the bad news may (MAY) bode well for the sector (as JDSU is tied to NT at the hip). I suspect there may be some market weakness early next week, but after that...earning's season. IMO all this nonsense will be a distant memory. I could be dead wrong. I have been before. ;) Now, if Nortel (and/or the market in general) continues selling off, all bets are off.
