Costco is city's top employer

The Issaquah Chamber of Commerce said the city's other top employers include the Issaquah School District (1,533 employees), Microsoft Corp. (now with 1,000 Issaquah employees, according to a company spokesman), Siemens Medical Systems (408), Cadman Inc. (387) and Zetec Inc. (301).

Redmond-based Microsoft has become a major employer in Issaquah only recently, moving into three leased office buildings not far from Pickering Place in the past year. But the software giant could easily bump Costco as the city's biggest employer if it follows through on plans to build and occupy 2.9 million square feet of office space at the massive Issaquah Highlands development now under construction northeast of downtown Issaquah on the Sammamish Plateau.

The new Microsoft campus could accommodate more than 12,000 workers.
