I'm sorry that I cannot answer your question
because I know little about American mass
produced blends. Nevertheless, I would not be
surprised by what you tell me, as any aditive would
add volume to the mix and reduce the coffee content.
I can tell you that most of the true premium
coffee, both Costa Rican and otherwise, is sold to
Europe. The major brands (Folgers, "Taster's" Choice,
etc. are not famous for buying premium coffee. Seems
logical that what little better quality coffee they
bought they would want to maximize by adding stuff to
it, but again, a cannot be sure.
