I missed Vietnam becoming so personal by a hairsbreadth
I missed by getting a good lottery number, about 300 if I remember right. I had 1/2 dozen friends go, either drafted or joined the Navy in lieu of draft. (that was a significant number of friends in a town of 2500 total people).

My own personal protest involved a bunch of pre-stamped postcards that I got from a drug store that changed their return address (also pre-printed). There was a regulation on the draft card that you were supposed to notify the board of any change in location. I sent them a couple cards a week mentioning new addresses I planned to visit, grocery stores, taverns, post office, wherever I happened to go that week. I must have 20 pound file with them.
