Gregory: "message broads?" LOL!

...do you think this is some sort of Freudian slip?

(I'm teasing you ... I think this typo is priceless).

Regarding changing name of thread -- I agree with you, although I would change it slightly, but I don't know SI's 'rules' on who is 'authorized' to change mission statements.

Do you know how that works?

The only thing I would change is the name ... to "Voltaire's Porch -- Independent." Something like that. <g>

Not that it is necessary.

I appreciate all the advice from the 'professional thread runners' as to what it takes to 'successfully' run a Cyberspace investing bulletin board ...

The definition of success to some (Dealer and Annette and Uncle Frank, perhaps?) seems to be volume of posts, correct?

Quantity ... not quality.

Then there's the need to become skilled using insidious PM methods of manipulation to control 'public post content' ...

Then sergeants-at-arms must be located and appointed ... I've observed that the 'best ones' seem to possess a strong sense of self-importance and willingness to compromise personal integrity for the privilege of 'belonging' ... supporting the common cause -- which is the existence/'viability' of the thread itself -- through demonstrable blind, loyal faith ... 'wstera' has got to be the most qualified henchman in all of SI, I do believe. A few of Uncle Frank's goons are quite good at this, as well, though, has been my observation ...

There's a lot more to it than meets the eye, evidently, for those inclined to make this activity their 'businesses.'

Now where have I heard that before?

<g>

PS: Gregory ... I might be wrong, but the thread you run seems to be notably absent of all of the above characteristics ... I doubt that you 'run around' all day PMing people as to what to post and what to keep private; I see that you aren't in the business of awarding 'prizes' for millennium posts or promoting guessing contests as to what day the post volume will reach certain milestones; indeed, your board remains unmoderated, etc ...

Just "Porchin'" this morning ...

<g>

2400 Baud??
Hey I started on a VIC 20
with a 300 Baud modem
You dial the phone...listen for modem carrier...
unplug the handset and plug the cord into the modem that stuck out the back of the computer.
300 baud.
