I don't think SUN is worried about AMD entering the server chip business, they might even partner with AMD.

It's Intel that is worried about AMD entering the server business. It should be particularly easy for Compaq to support Mustang based systems, since their engineers developed the bus that AMD licensed from them. (though that always begs the question, "so why aren't the systems already here?")

AMD's use of local interconnect makes it easier for them to fit big caches on chips. I think the wait is almost over.
