we have always needed a great number of material transport pilots(logistics command Certainly they aren't all fighter jocks... but when I think about the critical needs for aircraft that can't be supplemented by the civilian fleet, we're looking at fighter aircraft, heavy lift, and tanker support. As for personnel, we'll be flying them long haul via commercial chartered aircraft and then ferrying them into the combat zone by C-130 and helicopter, (or by good 'ol deuce and 1/2). And the same goes for commercial sea transport..... But it's the specialized equipment that you have to maintain and modernize...
