Keith, there was a story a few months ago on a N.Y. cab driver who day-trades between fares.

He bragged that he was making 20% a year...

re: portable/wireless quotes: Here's how I trade off of a RIMM/Ricochet/Palm VII class device... I sometimes use them to be alerted to swing trading entries, agree charts required for intra-day trading. From chart scans the previous evening, I have trigger prices setup to alarm in real-time when the stock trades into that level. Once triggered, I call in to get the long/short entry and to place the initial protective stop (typically 2-5 points away -- depending upon the issue and how it trades). The stop is also a pre-determined technical level, from the day-before TA/chart work.

Real-time quote devices are also useful for monitoring the market/sectors/bellweathers when you have to be away from your equipment around town during the doldrums (or on travel in other cities)... for example if the market is consolidating and it starts to move past key levels, you might want to return to the trading desk & get in front of the charts to participate, that sort of thing.
