My generic point was that relativism in and of itself does not denote rationality. I hold with this. I agree, however, that in practical terms, a relativist is likely to have arrived there through deliberation rather than just deciding to identify themselves with a particular ism (although this kind of thing does happen frequently). As to the degree of awareness and rationality held by the embracer of another ism...I am sure the range would be significant. I have met many people that claimed they believed in this or that, and had absolutely no comprehension of what they were really claiming. As an example: People will often say they are humanists. When you ask them what they mean, they either don't know, or they are mixed up. Sorry about this absolutism mix-up. I'm still shaking my head. :)
