But, not more than a few weeks ago I saw a History Channel documentary on the U.S. finance of the Nazi war machine. Several banks were involved. Almost all ceased operations with the Nazis at some point in the late 1930s. Those that didn't had their assets seized. Only one currently operating money center bank has a direct connection to it's Nazi past. I believe the program named CitiBank. Some of the banks financed the bonds through agents who approached German-Americans to set up travel savings accounts at a high rate of interest for a future retrun trip to the homeland. Union Banking was one of them. The Hamburg-American Line (which was clearly related to Union Banking and also seized) published a line of related travel materials I assume to get the tourists on board their liners as opposed to competitors. In the latter 1930s the racist appeal in their material became overt. The material contained statements like, "We hope you return home soon where you don't have to fuss about with Jews." The program named the banks, but not the directors. The Bush-Walker family was clearly involved per corporate documents. I have run a couple of key word searches on the historychannel.com trying to find a synopsis of the program with no luck.
