Merrill Lynch in defense of PCs in the wake of the Apple warning. Note mention of laptops sales gaining vs. desktops, sounds like Merrill thinks it's big time.

The analyst is defending his positively-rated consumer electronics retailers. A few years ago when he didn't like the retailers, he wanted to support his view by saying that consumers wouldn't buy the next Pentium upgrade cycle because it offered little incremental benefit and ran some software slower than a 386. Those CPU-related comments didn't made it into print because he was not qualified to make them. When Amazon entered the electronics market last year, he said that people would rather pick up electronics at the store than have them stolen from their doorsteps.
