JDN,
RE:"However, my broker read me some info one was a comment from Michael Dell who said its no big deal as that product would be on a 90day wait list anyhow and the other was some analyst (forgot who) who said the P4 would only constitute 4-5%of INTC revenue over the next year anyhow so he didnt see a short delay as a big deal. So, maybe that consoles us somewhat. However, I am more concerned with the BIG PICTURE and the one that seems to CONTINUALLY emerge is that of a big company sloshing around seeming to lose its way. INTC better straighten up and fly right soon before they become a laughing stock."

Arhhh...
Dell says 90 day wait list for P4 and they are the selected boxmaker? Oh my gosh!
4-5% of the revenue in next year from P4? Wassup with that?

Some things are becoming clear...one is why P-III is being pushed to .13u and cache added. Another is maybe one reason Timna was scrapped. For fab space for P-III...
Meanwhile, Athy gets pushed to 1.2-1.3-1.4 Ghz and beyond.
and Willy is hog tied...what's wrong with this picture?

I wish you wouldn't pull punches. I fully expected another "cool post of the day" post with profanity interlaced. Will the real JDN please post!

Jim

JDN,

Think of the implications for AMD if the P4 ramp is that slow.

Couple of points:

Rambus has been a DISASTER for the company. And more specifically tying a rambus only descision to its new processors was INSANE and a management failure.

This caused major problems with the cumine and killed timna and is now likely to handicap the PIV till mid 2001 at the earliest.

The itanium is such a DISASTER that intel wont even publish SPEC scores for it. And customers have rejected it except as a developmet platform.

And even u must realise that Intels acquisitions -- specifically level one and the ill fated webhosting centers have been a disaster. To the point where Intel is so embarrased that they dont break out the numbers for any of these businessess.

INTEL HAS A MAJOR MANAGEMENT PROBLEM PERIOD.

They have pissed away a leadership position in the processor area by underinvesting in core production and attempting to force rambus on the market.

They have purchased small third rate companies and are so embarrased they wont even disclose the financial performance. This is the worst diwursification effort i have ever seen.

Surely the BIG picture is Clear there is a failure to comprehend the problems and take clear decisive action.

During the horrid performance of last year, the popular refrain has been SO WHAT JUST LOOK AT THE STOCK PRICE.

I suspect that once intel hits the 20's even some of the diehards will start to question the incompetence.

Remember this failure has occured DURING A BOOM TIME in semiconductors. Even the management idiots at AMD have managed to parlay intels failures into gold.

How well is the management planning for the inevitable bust when it comes 1-2 years down the road.

I have said it many times Barrett is a bust. They need to take decisive action and get rid of the dead wood.

regards,

Kash
