Intel: Not Enough to Get Through
By James J. Cramer

Understand this: We do not believe you can own Intel (INTC:Nasdaq) through this product transition. Historically, when Intel has disappointed, you could make a credible case for staying with it or even buying more. I have made that case every single time that Intel has missed.

This time I am not making that case. This time I am saying that the transition to the smooth ramp of the Pentium 4, where the yields -- the harvest of working chips that do not have to be thrown away for defects -- will take too long and will produce too much pain to own through.

On top of this, many of the investments that Intel made in the last years are going bad and will have to be fessed up to. Sure, Intel has a decent initiative in communications that can offset some of the shortfall in microprocessors -- but not enough to do the job.

Suffice it to say that Intel has declined a great, great amount. But not enough to make it worthwhile for us to get long it again.
