(Now, didn't that make you feel a lot better?) The thing that is ambiguous about this thread is that the originator fails to take a stand. Is (s)he a follower of God, or no? It is so much easier to have an intellectual debate with someone who at least takes a stand. The originator fails to do so, which is like blowing into the wind. I know a lot of people who are believers, and I respect intrinsic value in ALL religions. However, we cannot blame all our faults and sufferings on God. That is childish. That is the "Liberal" way to explain our existence, which negates anyone taking personal responsibility for their lives, successes, failures and actions. Most of the "bad" things that happen are the result of mankind's (I'm not akin to the Feminist word groups) stupidity. If there were no night, we would never know when it's morning. Same for good and bad. If all the world were loving and benign, we wouldn't be able to appreciate it, because we would never know the other side. Contrast permits discerning, which produces knowledge. God will never be all-loving and all-kind. He injects chance, suffering and opportunity into reality so that we have the tools to gain knowledge. We can use the tools or ignore them. Truth itself is also not a "known". What is a truth at this moment may be an untruth in another context. The greatest obstacle to getting any value out of life is knowing what to put into it. If we want "nice" all the time, we are going to be terribly, terribly disappointed. Kubla Khan, remember, was written under the influence of opium. (Or was it valium? Heh, heh.) Naw, God can't be replaced. He knows too much. Your thoughts? canuck-l-head
