Dave,

Is that what they reported? Or did they report weak demand just in Europe?

They were trying to explain poor earnings. I assume that implies weak overall demand.

Europe is a pretty big place. England, France, Holland and Belgium alone have as many people as the US.

Hi Dave B; Re Intel's warning, you wrote: "Is that what they reported? Or did they report weak demand just in Europe?"

If Intel had strong demand in the US, they could have sold the stuff that they didn't sell in Europe in the US. The cool thing about chips is that they have a high ratio of value to weight, so you can ship them around the world using airfreight quite cheaply.

Intel has been saying for months that demand is so strong that they are unable to fill it. But if that's the case, it doesn't make sense that they should give a fig about Europe. The truth is that AMD has been stealing their high end market, and this has been particularly bad in Europe. AMD will report on Oct 10, and I believe they usually break out their sales by region, so we will soon see.
