V-man: 5000 is just 36% away, and we went up that much from Oct 18 to the first last year. Oh, let's do it again, what say.

Phone bill... one of my pet peeves is the durn ph bill and electric bill. With the family cell phones and house ph it is over $300/month like yours but my dog gone electric bill also is over $300 in both summer and winter peak months even though we have more of that energy saving stuff in this place that u can shake a stick at.

I absolutely have a fit when each of those bills comes. Ph bill... ever looked at all the little itty bitty items that add up.

My biggest life pet peeve..... slow pokes in the left hand lane. Slower traffic to the right, folks, it's the law, right Depy! That's why I have a jacked up bubba truck, so I can zoom down on them and move them out of the way.

<Am I the only one with an average PERSONAL phone bill of three hundred or so a month?>

I have a fixed cost frame, so I don't know... but I suspect that we here on SI are pretty special cases with the amount we spend on line. Paradoxically, I would expect the cash flow of the carriers both wireless and otherwise will explode when they stop spending so much money on infrastructure... <bite my tongue!>... at least those who are left.

you point out strong elasticity of longdist phone calls
LevelThree CEO has a good understanding
read a nice interview last summer99
he believes half the price per minute, three times the usage
1.5 elasticity rate

<<Am I the only one with an average PERSONAL phone bill of three hundred or so a month?>>

Actually Tom, me personally, my phone bills have never been lower. Has nothing to do with pricing, but simply the new technology that allows me to do the opposite of you.....I find myself using long distance phone calls on regular carriers less and less. First, I communicate so frequently with people on the internet, many times there is no reason to pick up a phone. Additionally, with my wireless service, I get free long distance 24/7/365, anywhere in the US.

As far as the markets.....it is refreshing to hear you so positive, when 85% of the folks...including me, are thinking this market has lost control of itself. I hope we do see 5000, I still say we trade in a range 3600 - 4200, but hope to god I am wrong. I agree with your time capsuls, but time capsuls are only valid until they change. Yes, normally NOV/DEC/JAN are kick ass, but whats to say this particular time capsul is now dead?? Think about it.....how many other so called time capsuls were put to rest this year. LOTS of stuff happened that wasnt supposed to....time capsuls were challenged severely this year. My guess is and again, I hope I am very, very wrong, but my guess is the houses have been, and are, slowly losing control of this market. Too many other factors now...too many other things that control the ebb's and tides of the market. In fact, I think the houses themselves are scared shitless because of how things transpired this year. Seriously, take a look...we talk all the time about how the houses control things...how they will step in and save their inventory and all that crap....well, again, this year has gone against conventional wisdom. The market and it's time capsuls have gone awry. The houses have gotten their ass kicked this year big time. Maybe not as much as me, the little guy, but the houses took it on the chin hard. I just dont see anything near term that will end this. we treat bullshit little nothing warnings with cataclismic selling, yet stellar earnings announced see's a quick 1% jump, with a 20% drop immediately following.

I hate being so pessimistic and it amazes me when I see my views now, as compared to a year, 2 and 3 years ago, but again, I cannot control the markets, I can only go with the flow.

Have a great weekend.....I'm gonna try my best to survive October and then see what the end of year brings.
