It's to promote thoughtful reverence for that which is most Holy, IMO. If you had lurked for a while you would have known that Solon was only a catalyst. The thoughts were out there. He didn't create the questioners. We already questioned before he created this "place". We all seek the truth. That is not a motto. It is not a pledge. It is a way of interacting with the world. Through debate. Most of us spring up spontaneously despite the best attempts of society to stop us. But once in a while we slip through. I have some closed people in my family tree who would reject my thoughts, but most wouldn't. If you read what Solon posts, and I admit it is a lot and much of it's provocative, the material is merely to demonstrate through evidence that there is SOME, SOME, SOME reason to doubt that the reality many were taught in Sunday School. That is not not the same as saying God doesn't exist. The Sunday School explanation of reality just doesn't sound right to many of us. We all believe something different and we come here to share these wild ideas. Solon dances superbly in an intellectual debate. We and others discussed and discovered what each thought through public discussion recently. That is cool. A sharing of ideas, a meeting of minds. Discovery. Humor! Entertainment for lurkers. We live in a world where I can work at home, tied to the internet. My company benefits because I maintain a web of technical peers through this virtual world. I do the company work in parallel with a casual conversation with other minds in a land of our own making. I show up to work 5 days a week to make myself available for meetings, but leave before the traffic so I can work at home comfortably and undisturbed. We corresponded technical issues by email and meet when we needed. My projects are on time. I can deliver what I say, when I say! Welcome to the intellectual palace of the internet. Maybe he should have added a warning label.
