"Then we have to think harder to find this need[for ADSL]"

elmatador- Well that one is easy. It's called, "cable modem." Unless I missing something about HDSL? I thought, but could be mistaken, that HDSL was only practical in an office environment and ADSL was the only practical telco broadband home access solution.

So isn't ADSL the only 'practical' way an incumbent telco can compete with the $40/month the MSOs are taking from them?

IMO, DSL will roll out no faster than the ability for the MSO to roll out CM. So if you think ADSL is slow, then it's really just a reflection of how difficult it is to roll out CM services.

BTW, I asked the numerous techs that have come to my house to install cable modem service(two times for GTE[ILEC overbuilder] and two times for Time Warner) how many business installs they do each day? The figures all seemed to correlate at 1 business for every 5 home hookups. All stated these are small businesses located in strip malls and smallish shopping centers. If this number scales to nationwide, it would be an impressive take rate of business to CM access. It's very difficult to find published stats on this fairly significant subject. Thanks. -MikeM(From Florida)
