I, too, think that the debates will be the deciding factor.
A few weeks back, I argued that the timetable for Bush was tough one. The Olympics, which would drown out a couple of weeks, then the debates, which the best he can hope for is not to do badly (the game of reduced expectations), and with only a couple of weeks left, the mud was going to fly. The dirty tricks (e.g., the debate materials scam) are starting, and it's just going to get worse. I was really impressed with how Downey and the Gore campaign handled the mysterious debate package from the Bush campaign. Threw a monkey-wrench big-time into the right's mantra of "we're the honest ones, they're dishonest."
