PCWorld.com:Intel postpones Pentium 4

According to PCWorld.com, a major direct-PC vendor has revealed that Intel officials contacted the company Thursday with the news that the Pentium 4, as well as the PCs that were to have used it, will be delayed until late November. Analysts had expected the P4 to launch late October, but there are reportedly problems with the 850 chip set.

Intel has never committed to a release date more specific than Q4, and the company is not now admitting a problem. Rescheduling could, however, hurt the company if P4s are not widely available for the holiday buying season.

DRBES,
re:CD-R/RW

I have an internal HP 7200i (was$199) in my Athlon system and also an Acer 6206 (was $99 after rebate) internal in my Celeron system. Both IDE.

I use them under Windows and using a IDE-SCSI patch, I use both under Linux.

My experience has been buy name brand CD-R discs and stay away from the 100 pak no-name disks.

I also use a UPS because if the burning process is interrupted, you just wasted a disc.

I have read stay away from the external printer port drives.

Watch your sales, sometimes you'll see 25 or 50 pack name brand cheap after rebate or even a 10 pak for $10 with a $10 rebate.

I use them mostly for backups, a 1.44 floppy just don't cut it anymore and I do not want to try out the ZIP click of death.

If I can help more, let me know.

steve
