V, A standard that makes sense, I think, is to consider whether or not you would stand in a crowded mall and proclaim the words just typed in a post to whomever might be walking by. Exclaim them from the top of your lungs! Would you do that? If not, perhaps a revision is necessary prior to posting. It is not a question of free speech or whether or not the terms of use are being applied at all, or being applied fairly to all. It is as you stated...a question of decency and consideration. This place is no different than a crowded mall....expect one has the "feeling" of anonymity. -SE

And yet another baseless 'prediction' ... ...by the great pen name this board carries proves as spectacularly wrong and ridiculous as the character himself: Message 14493393 Not sure if I'm the only one that has started using this bozo as the best daytrade (so far -- may include swing and LTB&Hs later on, depending on what results the great prophet's predictions bear out during Oct and Nov) contrary indicator I've found to date within the SI univers. In my neck of the woods, we are well into 'this afternoon' as it's now 2:20 p.m. EDT. Naz at -94.50 is a far cry from 'turning up.' I'll go check out the Mod Porch BB for Voltaire's backpedaling, which I would imagine is already in full swing (or should I say, full 'throttle' mode) ... ;) 'b-i-a' ###

Voltaire's sense of "decency" and "consideration" ...for others juxtaposed to his and his pals' comments just this afternoon ... apparently, these images Tom finds 'acceptable' for 'family viewing' of his moderated site, while he finds others' comments 'disturbing' ... that's precisely the conundrum that I probed the great Voltaire about regarding, just what IS 'acceptable' to you and SI regarding profanity ... and what is not? Seems these images ARE acceptable, right, SI Bob? These would be offensive to no one, I suppose, correct? Message 14496806 "Mommy, why does this man want to do something like 's___' in someone's face? What does 'bitch' mean? Message 14497026 "Daddy, what is a 'golden shower?'" Yep, a sense of being "decent" and "consideration" for others is a bit muddy, by Voltaire's own standards, seems to me. I'm looking for Tom's famous reference to 'split tails' that relates to his investing theories regarding women, but can't seem to find it off-hand ... that's a classic that I would suspect many daughters -- and sons -- of investors who follow these boards might find rather curious, to say the least. "Daddy, what's a 'split tail?' And what is Mom 'sitting on' that makes her 'forgive anything but poverty?' "Mommy, what's a 'velvet hammer?' And what's a "Texas Ten Hammer?"
