OTOT

Paul A. I empathize with your experience. The drug laws are basically hysterical responses of an undereducated public.

Clinics would be a way to control the spread of drugs and to educate those that may be addicted. They would be cheaper than prisons and they would reduce the need for police forces and prisons by at least 60%. The pressure on the court system would also be eased. Health problems associated with diseases such as hepatitis C would be reduced. AIDS may also be reduced. We know how to effectively treat drug addicts and we are not using that knowledge.

Children who are addicted should not be mixed with adults who are addicted. The treatment for adults is not suitable or effective for most children. We know how to effectively treat children but it is not being done widely.

Anyone can become an addict if exposed to the "right drug".
One use of crack cocaine will addict 98% of the people the first time it is used. This includes judges and attorneys as well as doctors and teenage children. I know a lawyer who lost her house and her job by spending everything she had on cocaine. She is clean now and working for a judge.

Alcohol is a drug that is more damaging to society than the other drugs combined. We tried prohibition and it resulted in the emergence of a powerful mafia. We tried prohibition on drugs and it resulted in the emergence of the Columbian cartel as well as other powerful drug lords.

*OT* Paul A... "now- my comment to that is, how do you know the idea of treatment would result in more users??? its never been done!"

Don't make me laugh Paul. Look how many users we have that pay for drugs. Can't you imagine what would happen if you gave it to them for free or at very minimal cost. If you started to give away FREE anything (ANYTHING) that previously cost money your supply would soon be depleted. Take yourself for example. If you were to get your pot for free would you take it? Would you use more? Would you take more if you could?

When I was 22, I was arrested for smoking a joint. Fine.. But in NJ, we have what is called a drug free school zone. 3 years in jail minimum mandatory. Judge didnt want to hear a single excuse.. It didnt matter that it was at 12:30 am in a restaraunt my friend owned.. all they cared was there was a school across the street and I was charged as dealing narcotics in a school zone.. 1 joint.."

Something doesn't sound right here. If you are a user and you were using at your friends restaurant then you knew you were in a drug free school zone. I'm assuming you had visited your friend before and I'm sure he had to forewarn you. If on the other hand you were caught dealing with kids then that's a different story. In the first situation you could have claimed ignorance of the law which wouldn't make any difference, and therefore your three year sentence is justified. If on the other hand you were dealing to kids then the law should have taken care of you by execution. Unfortunately at this time the law does not provide for this option. One thing for sure, and only because of your three year sentence... you won't smoke or deal pot with kids in a NJ school zone again. What happened to your friend that allowed this to happen in his restaurant?

Rapist and child molesters deserve to be executed as well.

Edit after post: What does the law provide for a second and third offense of dealing in a school zone?
