Why is AMD's ThumperTurd 33% LARGER that Intel's Coppermine - 120 sq.mm vs. 90 sq. mm?

They both have 256K L2 cache, although the Thumpy has 128K L1 vs. 32K for the Coppermine ...
Intel has surpassed them at the 0.18 micron level in density

your jump from the second statement to the third is illogical. Athlon has exactly %33 more cache and you have no idea about how many transistors Athlon has. How can you make the third claim ?
Oh I forget; according to the amd thread clown P3 1.13 works... on most software.

Re: Why is AMD's Thunderbird 33% LARGER that Intel's Coppermine - 120 sq.mm vs. 90 sq. mm?

So it can pound PIII into the dirt.

:-)

It might also have something to do with it having a much larger core than then PIII. P4 has a much larger core than Thunderbird, and is 217 mm2. There are postings on Aces Hardware message board suggesting that the P4 was hoped to be 170 mm2 and use local interconnect, but that Intel had problems with the process and had to fall back on a non-LI version that was developed concurrently as a backup. The suggestion was also made that if Intel could get its LI process to yield, they could quickly drop the die size of the P4 back to 170 mm2.

Have you heard if that what happened? Was it an unreasonable suggestion on the part of the poster at Aces?
