jw, yes, re-installing MSN from the CD solved the problem. I uninstalled Costco first.
I've used free Juno and Alta Vista for some time and
they do not conflict with MSN.

thanks for the input on costco.com. as i said to gottfried, i've decided to pass on their free service.... at least unless and until we all hear some positive reports from other threadsters.
