Frank: A couple points: Taking union dues out of paychecks is no more bother than taking out $5 a week for United Way or taking out local taxes. Very simple. Just set up a software program and the computer does all the work.

Re more workers required to same job in union setting: I don't think that's accurate. A quick way to check would be to see how many (non-union) workers it takes to turn out a Camry at Toyota's auto plant in Georgetown, Ky., and how many (union) workers it takes to turn out a Corvette at GM's plant in Bowling Green, Ky.

My guess: same.
