Joe - Re: "But anyway, my point to Tench was that SledgeHammer will be a competition of mainly Foster based Xeons. This is where the market is, and this is where the bulk of the market will be 1 year from now."

Unfortunately, a year from now, the SLudgePumper is not even scheduled for silicon launch - let alone system launch and REALLY LET ALONE A SERVER LAUNCH !!

So, you are correct - a year from now it will be a Foster Xeon market - and guess who builds the Foster Xeon ?

And - as you noted - that will be the BULK of the Market - and a bright guy like you can figure out who will have the BULK of this MARKET.

Paul

Joe - Re: "It is unclear where Itanium will be 1, 2 years from now. One thing that you will not dispute is that the market share of Itanium is zero. Where will it be at the time of SledgeHammer launch? 0.1%? 1%? What do you think?"

One thing is clear.

Whatever the market share for ITanium happens to be at the time the SLudgeHumper is introduced, the SludgeHumper will have ZERO - 0 market share at that time.
