If he got serious about the sport in college and wanted to buy a special rifle ... I'd have no problem with that. I'd probably even pay half the cost. I don't see where he would need to join the NRA, though, in order to compete on a collegiate shooting team. (Does one have to be a member of the NRA to shoot at Vandalia, Ohio, every year?)

I had an uncle who had a trap set-up down in the Ozarks. We used to go down there and shoot from time to time. When I was in my 20s my buddies and I also went out with a 12 gauge and tossed Blue Rocks with a hand-flinger.

I even did skeet once ... with the little houses. That's more for the experienced shooters.
