Palm's hardware sales are going to get wasted by Handspring, the guys who created the Palm Pilot.

The new Color Visor, The Prizm boosts 65,536 colors and a speedy new chip, the 30 MHz Motorola Dragonball. (Both the new Prizm and the new Platinum will have this new processor)

The old Visor had a 16 MHz 32-bit Motorola Dragonball EZ chip. Even the old Visors had faster processors than Palm:

Benchmarks using Neil Bridge's Benchmarking program:

PalmPilot Professional 91%
Palm IIIx 100%
Palm VII 91%
Palm V 100%
Palm Vx 122%
Visor Deluxe 158%

Just wait and see benchmarks with a 30 MHz Motorola Dragonball in the new Visors.

Then there is the Springboard expansion slot. The Palm, their add ons are another unit the same size and sometimes the same weight. So now you Palm is twice as heavy and think. The Visor, the same size and weight.

With your question to why Palm only has 8MB of ram, all that comes to my mind is MONEY. More ram, you will have to up the price.

Handspring is going to kick butt this fall:
