Yech. The instrument looks like the periscope of a U-boat. Can't imagine what the full procedure would be like without being pretty well out.
I just had an IV, I think, but it was heavy duty and I (mercifully) do not remember a thing.

This is not something you want to be awake for at all. In my early thirties I had some bleeding and had an exam with a sigmoidiscope. That is a flexible scope that only goes a 1/3 of the way into the colon. No sedative. Not recommended.

V1
