Microchip sees record net fiscal Q2 sales, profits
CHANDLER, Ariz., Oct 2 (Reuters) - Microchip Technology Inc. (NasdaqNM:MCHP - news) said on Monday it still expects to report record net sales and earnings for its fiscal second quarter.

The company, a maker of programmable analogue microcontrollers and microperipheral products, said the forecast sales and earnings were in line with its Aug. 10 results pre-announcement.

Earnings for the quarter are expected to be up more than 75 percent from the same year-ago quarter.

``We continue to be very comfortable with the current analysts' estimates for fiscal year 2001,'' said President and Chief Executive Steve Sanghi.

Analysts on average have expected profits per share of 33 cents in the second quarter and $1.36 for fiscal 2001, according to research firm First Call/Thomson Financial. The shares were up $2-7/16 at $35-1/2.
