It's like Ferrari buys a new-technolgy based engine from an engine specialist which gives them a 20 mile an hour advantage......how likely is that Williams, & other Racing Team can avoid investing in the same technology? Without the new engine, Ferrari wins hands-down.

I think this is a great analogy!
It applies in any industry that is undergoing innovations and transformations.

For example, the PC industry is still undergoing changes but they are not as significant as optical/wireless. Companies can hold onto older technology a little longer, whether it is PCs or mainframes.
