The point that's very significant is that C&W is putting so much control of their network evolution into the hands of NT.

They would not have done that unless they felt NT had compelling advantages in technology & implementation since NT would not likely go out of their way to implement competitor's technology despite whatever "chinese wall" may exist between NT's professional services group and the core systems group.

The significance of this deal is NOT the $1.4 billion amount (although it's not chump change). The significance (as Chandran alluded) is the possible trend that C&W is setting with this landmark contract.

If NT can deliver cutting edge technolgy & upgrade C&W to provide compelling competitive edge, imagine what other major Carriers will be faced with. Very big opportunity for NT to showcase their capability in a way that will be very difficult for other Carriers to NOT notice.

I always felt that with the recent in-house development & acquisitions, NT was moving towards this direction in terms of marketing strategy.....this deal confirms it. Now, it's a matter of execution and if NT delivers, look out! Networking business may never be the same.
