AMD needs to show that they consistently outperform or on par with intel. That should open commercial sector for amd and commercial sector is important for amd. The last thing amd needs, imho, is to take risks above of what is needed.

It's very important for AMD to continue to make strides even if P4 doesn't appear this year.

Agreed, for different reasons. If AMD continues to the steady increase in clock speeds while Intel can't (or is stuck fixing some problems, it will lead to more panic and more mistakes at Intel.
