Bush's lack of appeal suffers from the Republican Party's attacks on personal issues such as abortion. If Bush is trying to distance himself from freaks like Buchanan with conservative social agendas, then that is a good thing. All the Republican Party needs is to rebalance their social agenda - conservative economics and liberal social policies. The two compliment each other very well since they both emphasize the importance of the individual. Let the citizens of this country benefit from lower taxes as the federal budget is downsized. These are the easy messages to win. The tough part for the Rebublicans is winning the hearts of Americans which is 100% secular. No one cared about Clinton's impeachable offenses re: Lewinsky. It was a freaking nightmare in the press, but not much else. People should not be allowed to politicize social issues such as abortion. Those social issues that are dear to one's heart should be practiced not preached, at least to the public. The Republican's neeed to communicate a conservative economic policy with respect to taxation and a liberal policy with respect to social policy. In the latter case, I think the message could be as simple as "Everything We Do Is For You." If the Rebublican's rebalanced the virtue of lower taxes and protected the secualar differences that seperate nearly every group of people in this country, at least we can give people full control of their lives. "You make your decisions, period!!" If we have a tax surplus, we'll give it back to you. If we have a particular opinion about abortion, we will protect your right to free chioce. The people earned the prosperity enjoyed in this country. They should be the ones benefiting from the redistribution of wealth from big governement to individuals. The tax code should be made consistent in a way that permits the same tax deductions for individuals as businesses, i. e. we should only be charging taxes for the marginal profitability of a household. Certainly, the one thing I would like to see the most is the government permitting housing rents to be completely tax deductible.
