To expatiate on my own post, just based on the chart in my last mesage, I think the $125 hit in 1976 looks roughly like the long-term fair value for gold. That would imply that, inflation-adjsuted, gold today should maybe be worth $250 per ounce.

On what basis?

Fewer and fewer countries are basing their money on gold. Its major value nowadays is due to its usage in jewelry coupled with its degree of scarcity.....there is a reason why gold stocks have been on a downward trend.
