Aether Systems Announces Availability of BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds on Amazon.com with Service and Support from AetherLeading Online Retailer Offers Anytime, Anywhere Email Devices with Service and Support from Wireless Data Leader
OWINGS MILLS, Md., Oct 2, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Aether Systems Inc., (Nasdaq: AETH chart, msgs), a leading provider of wireless data products and services, announced today that leading online retailer, Amazon.com, will offer BlackBerry Wireless Handhelds(TM) with service and support provided by Aether.

BlackBerry(TM) is an end-to-end wireless email solution developed by Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (Nasdaq: RIMM chart, msgs). The BlackBerry handhelds can be purchased at the Amazon.com Electronics store (www.amazon.com/electronics).

To begin using the wireless email, consumers will be instructed to turn to Aether, which manages activation, customer care and billing. Both BlackBerry models (RIM 950(TM) and RIM 957(TM)) - once activated by Aether - provide anywhere, anytime access to email and other personal information management services.

The monthly fee for the 'BlackBerry by Aether' messaging service is $39.95; while the handhelds are currently being offered for $399 for the RIM 950 and $499 for the RIM 957. Aether, will market 'BlackBerry by Aether' through a national print and on-line advertising campaign.

from my memory, infospace had a press release a few months back that formed a partnership with oraclemobile. so they might in fact be supplying some of the content for this. can anyone confirm this?
