Petz, Re: "I don't know what % of Apple's use MOT chips"

Probably 95% at the moment. Only MOT makes the G4s which are in the performance line and while APPL may be buying some of its G3s from IBM the new iBook line is the only one for certain using an IBM G3 (integrated L2 cache).

Maybe AAPL ($12/sh in cash or $3.5B (+/-)) can invest in AMD's next fab as part of a larger agreement? I see it as challenging for AMD to gain allies who would not be concerned about INTC. AAPL MPU volumes are still very small (4-5M/year) so it is a niche customer. Being "stuck" with Altivec (aka Velocity Engine) on the G4 when MOT cannot seem to figure out how to increase MHz (no change in a year !!!) is starting to get very old for this AAPL investor/user.

John,

Apple isn't run by idiots they should be dropping a CPU architecture thats stuck at 450 MHz.

The problem with G4 isn't the architecture, it is the brain dead implementations being done by Moto and (formerly) IBM engineers.

A lot of the best PowerPC talent is working elsewhere these days (mostly at Intel.)

John:

"AMD is headed to more and more competition with Motorola."

Comment: Maybe MOT should buy AMD out to resolve any problems!!! (Better do it quick, though as relative market caps are about to be realigned!!!)
