Ultimate SPR?

Gore's idea that developing in Alaska should not be done because it will take a long time is a typical reason he should not be elected.

A seven year lead time is not much of a SPR. If you believe oil production will peak during the next 20 years, strategy to respond to this eventuality needs to be developed.

It should be considered that the next president to be elected could be very well serve 8 years. During this 8 years I believe we will either reach the peak production for crude or we will be very close.

Oil should be at the forefront of most all US policy going forward. It may well be the USA competing primarily with China for natural resources going forward. We need to ensure we develop and establish the relationships in the ME with less concern for Israel and more concern for the USA's oil supply.

Will Gore be the man to lead the world into the period of the decline of the Hydrocarbon man? He has 8 years to demonstrate his energy awareness and IMHO he has failed miserably.

Tommaso, Alaska cannot be part of an SPR if you do not know what is there. Think about it.

Drilling ANWAR not the environmental thread it was 10-15 yrs ago.

Environmentalists haven't keep current with the dramatic advances in drilling technology that have made their arguments against exploring ANWAR "obselete". With quantum leaps in horizontal drilling, "laterals" drilled perpendicular to the initial bore hole can be accurately guided for thousands of feet to successfully tap reservoirs thought unreachable only a few years ago. This has even been accomplished at considerable water depths in the North Sea and GOM as well as on sensitive land areas.

Major oil companies are now in the position where they can begin drilling on Alaskan state land just north of the national wildlife reserve, then extend laterals southward to test potentially hydrocarbon bearing structures on the norther fringe of ANWAR. This is a good 1st step to exploring the huge O&G potential believed to be there.

If Congress and a future President eventually grant permission to put drill pads and rigs within ANWAR's surface boundaries, the use of horizontal drilling can again assist in minimizing the impact on the sensitive permafrost. Drilling multiple laterals in a radial pattern, much the same as we see in expensive offshore production platforms; We can probably cut by half and perhaps by even two thirds the number of actual drilling locations necessary to explore and produce the rich oil and gas reserves believed to underlie ANWAR. Far fewer drilling locations means far less impact of any kind on the wildlife and the lands surface.

There will be no environmental disaster at ANWAR. We can protect the precious national resource on the surface while benefiting from the equally precious resource thousands of feet below. This CAN be done by taking full advantage of our new technology in the careful planning and execution of an ANWAR exploration and development program.

AND IMHO, it's high time the American People were told the truth about this important issue.
