Now I don't now what color the sky is in your world Stephen... but until the good lord above decides to stage his return, we're still living in an evil world where the law of the jungle rules supreme. Btw, that zero tolerance gun crime law is in effect in Virginia and other states and gun-related crimes are down significantly. Use a gun in a willful crime and it's five years in the slammer. And if the thought of facing 5 years in the slammer for using a gun in a crime isn't a deterrence, then it is quite likely that nothing would deter such people. And thus, they DESERVE to be in prison, if not executed. Don't look to me for much sympathy on that front. I have a close relative who did 5 years in the penitentiary for recidivist drinking violations (never hurt anyone either)... He did a year in the county slammer for violating probation (he was drinking in a public area) on a DUI charge, and was set to be released. At his probation hearing the judge told him that a condition of his release was that he had to attend a mandatory $3,000 dollar drug and alcohol rehabilitation program. And since $3,000 was about all the money he had to his name, he told the judge "Screw You!, I'm not paying that when I just spend a year in a jail cell where I couldn't drink or smoke". The judge apparently looked at him, slammed his gavel on his desk and sentenced him to "5 years in the state penitentiary", which he served every day of. He had a real nasty, "the world owes me a living", "screw authority", kind of attitude before he went in. But he's pretty mellow now... Yeah... five years for probation violation, a half dozen DUIs, and a nasty non-conformist attitude. And he's not even a minority... Go figure... Unfortunately, some people are just like that... and if we coddle them and feel sorry for the fact that they made the personal choice to steal, rob, kill, and maim for a living, then I would much rather have them in jail.... in fact, I think we should have them up on the North Slope providing pseudo slave labor for those companies who are drilling for oil.... <VBG> Regards, Ron
