What FL says is true. The bride's family is responsible for putting on a beautiful ceremony in a
1) beautiful church with
2) beautiful flowers
3) beautiful candles
4) spiritually inspired minister
5) beautiful wedding gown
6) beautiful programs
7) beautiful music
8) managed by an ex-marine wedding coordinator
followed by:
8) a festive reception in a
9) beautiful house/club/restaurant with
10) beautiful flowers
11) beautiful cake
12) wonderful food
13) great music
14) motivated, well-managed wait staff

If you are lucky, the groom's parents will provide
1) a party after the rehearsal
2) a beautiful limousine for the lovely couple
3) an open bar at the reception
4) some cash for the honeymoon

Together, the groom's and bride's parents may be expected to:
1) have a quiet, but well provisioned brunch the morning after for all of the out of town guests

If you're really lucky, you will be glad your daughter married a great guy with a promising future and parents with whom you can have a good relationship.

If you're not so lucky, you do all this work, spend all this money, work all this time so she can marry a schmuck with rude parents who are only able to raise schmuck's.

Fortunately, my new son-in-law falls well within the former category!
