Myopia.

I have suffered from the same and still do. I could get lasers shot into my eyeballs, but my klunker glasses are such a part of my persona, I don't know what I would do without them now. Furthermore, if I don't have them on my head, I scare the living daylights out of my five year old who thinks some stranger is in the house.

Regardless, all this fuss about mobile telephony growth is appropriate. However, it will be BUT ONE segment of the G* revenue stream. We are microanalyzing this one application as the litmus test to decide whether G* lives or dies. When widespread FAUs are a failure and data is a flop like Valueman predicts, THEN it is time to wrap up the tents and go home. But until then we wait.

I often feel as if mobile phone users such as myself are guinea pigs to make sure the whole G* system works so the other apps can go on line. I may be right.

Badshah, Globalstar's business was NOT based on the USA buying many phones. I think USA sales were to be only 120,000 or so. The big markets were supposed to be Russia, China, India, Brazil and places like that with most of the minutes via Schlumberger and other fixed phones.

But I agree with you, Globalstar is expensive and people in the USA have got big heaps of money. Hordes of them can afford Globalstar and it's a question of whether they can be bothered getting one and lugging it around.

With Wingcast and IFN on-line, I expect demand for Globalstar services in cars, RVs, trucks, Mississippi paddle steamers and planes will grow [over years, not months].

PS: That Agora link, [see my previous post], is not worth visiting [no Globalstar and little else].

I suspect you could buy an AK47 complete with Russian soldier for a few bucks.

Consider the use of Globalstar like financing. If you have no other choice you will pay higher rates. There is no other choice for access in most parts of the world. This cost will decrease as usage increases.

The USA still has areas of no cellular access, let alone data, we posters on SI are the more computer literate than the average American and I now prefer to be online whenever I am working and keep in touch in the evening.

The rich in other countries are very rich while the poor are very poor. There is no middle class so rich folks in other countries will use this service once they become accustomed to Internet access.

I would love to have Internet access in my car and would download emails while I sat around.
