I believe people are making a serious mistake when they don't feel we need a strong military along with any protection we can get from nuclear weapons. I am not as worried about Russia or even China as I am about a country like Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Pakistan, or other countries who might feel it an honor to give us the bomb. Also, with a strong military I think we maximize our chances of staying out of conflict. We never want anyone to think we are weak or ill prepared or unwilling to defend ourselves. I really respect Israel for how the respond and hold their line. The quickest way to get into a confrontation is to be perceived as weak or unwilling to respond. I would never want to be the one who starts something but I would want everyone to know that if they attack we will defend with every force available.
