If I'm not mistaken, there's still somewhere in
the neighborhood of 200M shrs that can be
repurchased on that program.

I expect Dell to use the power of a stock
buyback announcement at some point to help move
the stock. However, they need to time this right
for if they don't it could be wasted.

If they are going to come up short the second half
of this year, announcing a stock buyback probably
won't help.

But as you state, selling puts is a good idea and
something Dell has done many times before. I'd bet
they're doing it right now.

Compaq's valuation vs. Dell

RESEARCH ALERT-Compaq started as hold
NEW YORK, Oct 3 (Reuters) - ABN AMRO on Tuesday started coverage of Compaq Computer Corp. (NYSE:CPQ - news), the world's No. 1 personal computer maker, with a rating of hold.

-- in a report, ABN AMRO said Compaq was trading at a higher price/earnings ratio than Dell Computer Corp. (NasdaqNM:DELL - news)

-- "With Compaq's weaknesses, this is unjustified, in our opinion.

-- ``We do not believe Compaq's stock will outperform the market until the company can prove that it can once again generate sustainable and profitable growth, and we do not believe this will happen in the near-term.''

-- shares closed on Monday at $28.29.
