Cirruslvr,

<Still chugging along with that fifth gen processor? ;) Scumbria has you beat. I believe he uses a slower Winchip.>

I added memory over the years and a faster disk drive and the only time I think I am being constrained is when I am playing with some high resolution images. And even that would benefit more from from doubling my memory than anything else. I may buy a Duron one of these days once I find a platform I like.

<What do you think of the TI-AMD announcement? TI's the best in DSPs so AMD's partnering with them is great, but a TI rep said the agreement wasn't exclusive to AMD... >

I think it is a great deal. TI has huge clout on the mobile phone market. AMD probably couldn't have found a better partner.

But for a processor buff like me this flash news pales in comparison to moving Gateway low-end to 850MHz in the first week of Q4. Intel does not have a whole lot of product shipping above that grade. I am glad AMD made this move this early in Q4 instead of waiting for official 1.2G introduction. I take it to mean that we will see a no holds barred market share offensive from AMD.

If I were AMD management, I would maximize the P4 slip and drive for Duron to get to 850 and Athlon to 1.33 by mid-Novemeber (possible only with Thunderbird DDR266 or Palamino).
