John and Art,

It seems like it will come down to a balance between manufacturing
capacity and employment of the intellectual properties.

Right now SanDisk is straddling the ends of the spectrum.
It is neither an IP pure-play nor a manufacturing powerhouse.

I am ok with that.

Art, you stated...

What I see now, however, is some of the intellectual property of
SanDisk being sacrificed to meet the huge current demand.

Since nobody outside either company knows the details of the recent
renewal of the licensing agreement with Hitachi there is no way to
substantiate or refute your assertions.

Your points are well taken.

Stephen,

I've got about 2/3 of the position I want to eventually have. I will probably buy the rest of the position if there is significant weakness in the next few weeks, if not I will wait until after earnings and make my decision with more facts in hand.

Yes, I think SanDisk is a buy, and will be a great 4th quarter stock. When folks can't buy digi cams for Christmas gifts, and they find out why, the SanDisk story should get told over and over in the media. That should increase the pool of investors.
