If every vehicle had 4-10 compressed propane tanks in their trunk you would be hearing about a lot more explosions and there would be a heck of a lot of dead tailgaters.

Gasoline tanks do occasionally rupture during accidents, even though they are designed to be in the most stable place of the vehicle. The saving grace for the accident participants is that the tank is not compressed.

It surprised me to learn a few years back that more engine compartment fires are caused by antifreeze than gasoline.
