I'm a believer in ownership.
I'm not sure you can say the Indians took good care of the land since that was another time and a different way of life than we have since the industrial revolution. And there were lots of warring cruel Indians too they were no angels. Personally I'm glad we had the Industrial Revolution...I don't want to go back to living in tents. I wouldn't be alive anyway since I had rheumatic fever when I was 5 and would have died without penicillun.
Private ownership generally means good stewardship since we generally have our own interests at heart.
